Plus etched on the blade are the following: Morte Al Nemico (Death to the Enemy) and on the opposite side, Vendetta Corsa (Corsican Revenge). The blade remains very sharp. Per Bernie Levine, the African Head on the handle is the symbol of Corsica. The handle is made of bone.

The handle has 8 notches cut into the bottom side and shows great patina and fine checking to the ivory as you would expect for a knife of this age. I believe the knife to be early to mid 1800's.

click to enlarge	Corsan, Denton, Burdekin & Co Bowie Knife C/AR389 CORSAN, DENTON, BURDEKIN & CO. This massive Sheffield bowie knife from the 1850's-1860's is pictured in the book, "The Antique Bowie Knife book by Adams, Voyles". It has a nicely polished 10" blade, except where someone scratched the blade while trying to sharpen it and has a 16 3/4" overall length. The scratches are not deep and have not altered the shape of the blade at all. This is a real fancy dress bowie knife with ebony handle and 3 pearl inlays. The pommel cap and guard are hollow castings done in nice detail. he scabbard is leather and 100% complete with its German silver tip. It still retains its frog and belt loop, although the surface is scuffed and worn. The sheath itself is in excellent condition with nice gold rope bordering.

The knife is marked on both sides of its 8 1/8" spear point blade having a triangular fuller extending 5" into the blade. It has a 5 3/8" stag handle with German silver shield. This handle is 1 1/4" longer than normal. The blade is unsharpened with a few spots of light discoloration. The sheath is in good condition with some scuffing and missing its frog button and German silver tip.
